Pelagornis is a playable bird in Feather Family. It's the 5th addition of the 2020 Summer of Fossils event.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is primarily white with a light gray underbelly. It has a slightly different gray around the eyes and a darker gray for the beak, which has false teeth. The feet are an even darker gray.

Adult

The adult is primarily black with a white underbelly. It has a long pink beak with false teeth as well as pink legs. It has gray around its eyes. It has very large wings and a long neck. It has webbing on its feet.

Actions

Chick

• Run - Increases walking speed. Speeds up walking cycle.
• Call - Chick makes a noise.
• Sit - Sits down.
• Eat - Chick lifts wings up while lifiting its head and down and biting the ground.
• Hurt - Chick falls forward with one wing tucked in and the other spread out.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Grow - Allows chick to grow into an adult Pelagornis.

Adult

• Run - Increases walking speed. Triggers running animation.
• Call - Pelagornis makes high pitched, lengthy screech.
• Sit - Sits down.
• Eat - Pelagornis moves head up and down while biting the ground.
• Hurt - Pelagornis lays forward with wings tucked in.
• Display - Pelagornis spreads wings and sways them up and down while moving it’s head from side to side.
• Preen - Pelagornis cleans tail feathers with beak.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Fly - Allows Pelagornis to take flight.

Trivia

• The pelargornis is the fifth bird in the SoF event, following the kelenken.
• Like all other SoF birds, the penguin NPC mentions that he is the one who brought back the species.
• Around release, the wings of both the chick and adult were broken. They were missing tips and large chunks of the wings were missing. The adult was also missing a bottom jaw.
• This is the first bird with pseudo teeth.
• This is the first SoF bird that has a drastically different adult call from the chick call, as the others just had different pitches of the chick call used on the adult.
• This is the first SoF bird capable of full flight. It's also the second SoF bird able to fly at all, first being the archaeopteryx and third the argentavis.
• The webbing on the feet of both the chick and adult were unable to be colored. This has since been fixed.
• The term 'Pelagornis" is a large group of birds as opposed to a singular species. The species used is "Pelagornis sandersi".
• The adult's sprinting animation is surprisingly similar to how an albatross runs, though the albatross doesn't use this animation at all.
• There is an error with the chick's model where the eyes are different sizes.
• The call sound of the adult is an edited version of an albatross screech.
