Hesperornis is a playable bird in Feather Family. It's the third bird of the 2022 Summer of Fossils event, being released on July 1st, 2022.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is rather small and of upright posture, with the majority of its body being grey. It has a lighter underbelly, which spans from its mask to the bottom of its tail, while also wrapping entirely around its neck. It has light beige legs, with wide, webbed feet. It also has a pink long beak and yellow eyes.

Adult

The adult is a sleek and rather tall bird, with an elongated neck and beak and proportionally short body. Its body is black with a white underbelly, which spans from its mask to the bottom of its tail. It has a pointed, grey beak, from underneath which peek out sharp, white teeth. It has a yellow stripe along the side of its head, which starts at the base of its beak and ends in a spiky plume. It has incredibly tiny, entirely black wings and an equally stubby tail. It has grey legs with webbed, wide feet and black talons.

Chick

• Run - Increases walking speed. Speeds up walk cycle.
• Call - Chick chirps.
• Sit - Chick goes into sitting position, where it stretches its legs behind its body.
• Eat - Chick repeatedly pecks the ground.
• Hurt - Chick lays on its stomach with its head on the ground.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Grow - Allows chick to grow into an adult Hesperornis.

Adult

• Run - Increases walking speed. Triggers sprinting animation.
• Call - Hesperornis makes a screech-like noise.
• Sit - Hesperornis goes into a sitting position, where it stretches its legs behind its body.
• Eat - Hesperornis repeatedly snaps the ground.
• Hurt - Hesperornis lays on its back with its legs raised above it body and head curled to its side.
• Display - Hesperornis tilts head behind its back and shakes its wings.
• Preen - Hesperornis pecks the base of its tail.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Fly - Displays a message stating that the Hesperornis is flightless.

Trivia

• Hesperornis is the first and currently only SoF 2022 bird whose chick doesn't have a sprinting animation.
• Hesperornis is the first extinct bird to be considered aquatic. The other aquatic birds in the game are Auk, Penguin, Loon, Cormorant, Great Auk and Cockatrice.
• Hesperornis and Cockatrice both experienced issues where they couldn’t properly swim in a straight line and were slower than intended, a bug caused by an error in Roblox’s swimming physics that affects larger player models. This was fixed on July 7th, 2022.
• At one point, there was a flaw in the adult model where the wings of the adult are unaligned. This was fixed on July 4th, 2022.
