Great Auk is a playable bird in Feather Family. It’s the third bird of the Summer of Fossils 2023 event, being added on July 7th, 2023.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is a small, plump primarily light gray bird with a darker back. It has a broad black beak and dark blue eyes. Its legs are black.

Adult

The adult is an upright bird with black feathers on its head, back and wings. It has white on its underbelly and lower tail. It also has white on the spot in front of each eye and on the stripes on its otherwise black beak. It has black legs and blue eyes.

• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Grow - Hatchling grows into an adult great auk.

Adult

• Run - Increases walking speed. Triggers running animation.
• Call - Great Auk makes two croak-like noises.
• Sit - Sits down with feet split to the sides and body upright.
• Eat - Repeatedly scoops at ground.
• Hurt - Falls on back with head to the right, wings out and legs stretched down.
• Display - Leans down and repeats a cycle of two bites and a swallow while wagging its tail.
• Preen - Cleans belly with beak.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Fly - Displays a message stating that the great auk is flightless.

Trivia

• Great Auk and its update content were leaked due to an accidental opening of ShinyGriffin’s testing place for Feather Family the day before release. Nobody was actually able to play as Great Auk however, as the game didn’t transfer main game save data and it wasn’t up for long enough to get the required feathers.
• Like Auk, Penguin, Loon, Cormorant, Hesperornis and Cockatrice, Great Auk is aquatic. This means its adult version swims very fast and doesn’t automatically rise to the surface when idle in water.
• Great Auk is the second bird with multiple words in its name, the first being Bird of Paradise.
• Like with Sapeornis, the NEW label on its menu icon blocks the start of its name.
