Weather/Disasters[]

Feather Family has various kinds of weather with random chances to happen.

Clear Skies, Partly Cloudy and Very Cloudy[]

Nearly identical, clear skies, partly cloudy and very cloudy are considered the most standard of all weather conditions. The only difference between the three is that clear skies has less clouds obscuring the sky, partly cloudy has some more and very cloudy has the full sky obscured. The sky keeps a standard color during either of these.

Rain[]

Every 1-2 hours, there is an 85% chance for it to start raining. The sky will turn gray if the sun is up or purple if the sun is down along with rain particles falling across most of the map with rain sound effects to go with them. These rain particles do not appear when under cover. If rain ends while during the day, a rainbow will spawn. This doesn't happen if it stops at night though a rainbow spawned during the day can persist to nighttime.

In Ice Mountain, the rain particles are replaced with snow. The sand-based part of Desert and the entirety of Skylands (as well as all of the map approximately above a certain altitude) do not have any rain particle effects though still are affected by the sky change due to that being global.

Thunderstorm[]

Every time rain spawns, there is a 1 in 3 chance it'll appear as a thunderstorm instead. Thunderstorms serve as a modified version of rain, having the same effects except with thunder sounds and lightning bolts that strike down. The delay between the thunder sound and lightning depends how close you are to the strike. The closer to the strike, the sooner the thunder.

Tornado[]

A thunderstorm has a 1 in 5 chance to have a tornado added to it. When present, the tornado spawns around the middle of the map and slowly moves in random directions. This tornado is harmless to players and the environment. This is changed to a sandstorm if it spawns in the Desert.

Fog[]

Every 1-2 hours, fog has a 10% or 1 in 10 chance to appear. When present, fog will cover the lower areas of the map, obscuring player vision.

Wildfire[]

Every 1-2 hours, a wildfire has a 5% or 1 in 20 chance to appear. A wildfire will happen in a select biome, covering the biome in flames and lighting it red. This fire is harmless to players and map elements are left unharmed. A wildfire always happens when an eruption is triggered.

Eruption[]

Eruptions always start in Volcano and have a 2% or 1 in 50 chance to happen every hour (though for the 2023 Summer of Fossils event, the chance was boosted to 10% or 1 in 10). When it starts, bright red lava will start flooding the volcano, with lava running down from the top of the volcano as smoke starts spewing out. After the lava is done rising, the volcano will start spewing large rocks that go in random directions (these do not affect players due to their lack of collision). This will go on for some time before stopping, where the lava retracts back and the smoke stops spewing. A wildfire will always happen with an eruption.

Time[]

The current in-game time can be seen in Settings. One in-game minute passes every second, meaning an hour takes a minute to pass and a full day lasts 24 minutes. The sun is visible from 6 AM to 6 PM where the sun starts setting and the moon is visible instead. The sky is light blue while the sun is out and very dark blue when it's down, though both of these are slightly altered with the presence of rain.

At 11:00 PM in-game time before the Peryton NPC was added, a loud echoing shriek would be heard by all players. In the game’s Halloween events from 2022 onwards, Ghost could only spawn at 12:00 AM in-game time (midnight) and lasted until 1 AM in the graveyard area between Volcano and Forest.

Ambience and Effects[]

Certain areas of the game has ambient audio that plays based on the environment's theme. A few notable examples include the ocean noises of Beach, the creature noises of Jungle, the insect noises of Forest and the wind noises of Skylands. They can also emit particles in certain areas, like the steam that rises from geysers and hot springs in Volcano. These can each be turned off with their respective settings.
