Elephant Bird is a playable bird in Feather Family. It's the fourth bird of the 2023 Summer of Fossils event.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is medium sized bird covered in varying shades of brown. Its neck is a dark brown, and its head shares the same color with the exception of its lighter brown face, a color also used on its underside. Its back is a medium brown with dark brown patterns of spots and lines. It has relatively large and thick gray legs as well as a large gray beak. It has dark brown quills on its rear and brown eyes.

Adult

Male

The male elephant bird is a fairly large bird with varying shades of brown. It has a caramel colored neck and head while its face and throat are a pale pink. Its back, thighs, tail base, tail quills and head quills are all a very dark brown while its underbelly is a regularly dark brown. Its legs are large and pale, its beak is large and gray and its eyes are brown.

Female

The female elephant bird is a giant bird with mostly light brown feathers. It's pale on its face, throat and its very large legs. It has large quills on its tail and smaller ones on its head, both of which are the same color as the body. Its beak is gray and its eyes are brown.

• Call - Elephant bird makes a noise. Male makes a quiet pair of low pitched calls while female has an elongated bellow.
• Sit - Elephant bird sits down with legs bend back.
• Eat - Leans down to repeatedly scoop at ground.
• Hurt - Falls on its side with legs to the ground and head lifted.
• Display - Stands upright on left leg while repeatedly pumping its head and right leg back and forth.
• Preen - Elephant bird back with beak.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes of elephant bird.
• Fly - Displays a message stating that the elephant bird is flightless.

Trivia

• The male Elephant Bird has one of the quietest calls in the game, barely audible even with music and sound effects off.
• Unlike other extinct birds, Elephant Bird's call from the noise button assigned to it in Ice Mountain's lab uses the gender not displayed on the menu icon, using the male's call despite the female being what shows on the menu.
  • The update icon also features the male instead of the female.
• Elephant Bird is the second bird with two words in its name (the first being Great Auk) and the third to have multiple words in its name (the first being Bird of Paradise and the second being the aforementioned Great Auk).
• In its buying prompt, Elephant Bird appears as ElephantBird. This is likely just how the game recognizes it.
• Like with Sapeornis and Great Auk, the beginning of Elephant Bird's name was covered by the NEW label on its menu icon.
