Dromaeosaur is a playable bird in Feather Family. This skin is the the sixth and final bird of the 2023 Summer of Fossils event, being released on August 18th, 2023.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is a medium sized lizard-like creature with dull brown feathers across its back and dull whitish-gray feathers on its face and underside. It has a medium gray snout, with three fingered hands and three toed feet of the same color. Instead of wings, it has feathered arms with its hands obscured by its feathers. Its tail is stiff and bony with small gray tail feathers sprouting. Its eyes are yellow.

Adult

The adult is a large and lengthy lizard-like creature with medium brown feathers covering its back and arms. Across each side of its torso is a black streak, with an additional black streak on each side of the face. It has a bony and stiff tail with black and gray feathers sprouting from it. It has arms instead of wings, with three fingered hands slightly obscured by the feathers on the arms, which are brown on the limb and gray further out. Its snout, hands and feet are grayish-brown, with its hands having three fingers each while each foot has three front toes and one back toe. Each foot’s innermost toe is a vertically hooked sickle claw.

• Dromaeosaur is the first playable in the game whose name is not a common name or genus. Dromaeosaur refers to any member of the family Dromaeosauridae containing theropods like Velociraptor and Dromaeosaurus.
• Dromaeosaur is tied with Skeleton for the most expensive unlockable in the game.
  • They are also the only Summer of Fossils birds to share the same price.
  • Dromaeosaur and Skeleton are also the only Summer of Fossils birds to have yellow names and stars instead of brown names and bones.
• Dromaeosaur is the first non-gamepass playable in the game to not be part of avialae.
• In the game's description for Dromaeosaur's addition, the header line for the update news misspells Microraptor as 'Mircoraptor', stating "🐣 Last Update: Dromaeosaur (Mircoraptor)".

Deinonychus-Based

• Deinonychus, unlike every other addition of Summer of Fossils 2023, was hinted at throughout the entire span of the event. A clipboard in the lab mentions Penguin Jr.’s interest in resurrection the creature of which the skeleton outside the lab belongs to, with this skeleton being that of Deinonychus.
• Deinonychus’ adult call is quite unusual, seeing as dromaeosaurs were thought to make very bird-like noises, yet Deinonychus’ adult call is very akin to snarls made by crocodiles.
  • This may have just been a generic dinosaur noise chosen as the call. ShinyGriffin likely has knowledge of this fact considering Microraptor’s bird-like call.
• The adult’s default color scheme is weirdly reminiscent of that of a house sparrow. Whether this is intentional or not is unknown.

Dromaeosaur is a playable bird in Feather Family. It's the fifth bird of the 2023 Summer of Fossils event, being released on August 4th, 2023. This skin was released as the only version of the bird before doing demoted to a skin with the release of Deinonychus.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is a small, primarily black creature with fairly feathered wings and legs. It has a gray snout as well as gray feet and clawless hands on its wings. Its tail is very skinny and has a few sparse feathers sprouting off of it. Its eyes are brown.

Adult

The adult is a medium sized, primarily bluish-black creature. It has a yellow snout as well as yellow hands and feet with black claws on them. It has long flight feathers on its wings and legs that are black. Its tail is mostly a plain tail base ending in pairs of feathers that gradually get larger towards the end where two king feathers sprout. These feathers are bluish-black near the base and black at their tips. Its eyes are brown.

Microraptor-Based

• Both stages being nearly entirely black is accurate to what’s been found of Microraptor, with found pigments in fossils suggesting it was covered in black feathers. Its realism presets also follow this theme.
• The adult’s Hurt animation is a reference to the holotype fossil of microraptor.
• The quizzes before the Dromaeosaur was added found in Village and Ice Mountain gave a large hint towards Microraptor's release, possibly unintentionally, with the one of the possible questions regarding if coloration had been found in dinosaurs. The answer’s explanation highlighted Microraptor as a dinosaur with known coloring with its iridescent black feathers.
