Trivia
- Cockatrice is the third game pass bird, and the fourth game pass.
- Cockatrice is the only game pass bird whose game pass is named differently from the bird itself, being named Basilisk. This was done because Roblox censors its actual name and ‘basilisk’ is considered synonymous to cockatrice.
- Cockatrice was given a female variant, hover flight and a neck fluff redo in the Updated Griffin update.
- Despite no mention of sexual dimorphism of cockatrices in mythology, Cockatrice in Feather Family has gender variants. This is most likely done due to it being partially chicken, a sexually dimorphic animal.
- This also applies to Griffin and Peryton, with Updated Griffin having sexual dimorphism because lions are sexually dimorphic while Peryton has sexual dimorphism because deer are sexually dimorphic.
- Cockatrice is the third aquatic bird in the game, with the others being Auk, Penguin, Loon, Cormorant, Gannet, Great Auk and Hesperornis. All of these birds are very fast in water and can stay underwater without floating to the surface.
- Cockatrice and Hesperornis once experienced an issue which affected their swimming speeds and swimming handling, an error caused by a bug in Roblox’s water physics which messes up swimming for larger player models. This was fixed in July 7th, 2022.
- Cockatrice's species wasn't revealed until the addition of Skeleton, which is 3 weeks before the release of Cockatrice.
- Cockatrice was first mentioned when ShinyGriffin teased a possible new game pass bird when announcing the Phoenix remodel.
- Cockatrice's design was changed to look more avian than it's described as in mythology.
- Cockatrice, Skeleton and Peryton are the technically the only birds who can have glowing eyes. However, some birds (especially older morphs) actually have glowing eyes as well.
- Cockatrice is one of the four birds that doesn't use the default spawn, the others being Phoenix, Peryton and Griffin. Cockatrice always spawns in the Fantasy Field.
- Cockatrice and Peryton, unlike the other two game pass birds, have their eggs spawn in different spots than where normal eggs spawn when the respective biome is chosen as the default spawn. The adult Cockatrice still spawns in the normal adult spawn while adult Peryton does not.
- Its magic emote is likely inspired by mythology, as cockatrices are told to be able to turn anyone to stone once they lock eyes with them.
- Changing the texture of a cockatrice egg changes the base and leaves the spots as they were, similarly to Phoenix eggs only changing the texture of their base.
- We normally wouldn't be able to tell whether the Feather Family Cockatrice is a snake/serpent-rooster or dragon-rooster. However, the game pass description confirms that Feather Family's Cockatrice is in fact a serpent as opposed to a dragon.
- If you use Eat and start walking, Cockatrice's mouth will move as it walks. This is a bug.
- When in first person, you can see Cockatrice's wing webbing. This is likely a bug.
- When Call is used while Display is on, then Cockatrice will temporarily levitate while the Call animation is going. This is a bug.
- During flight, a trail will appear at the tips of cockatrice's wings, the color of which can be changed with the Magic option during customization. This was not initially a feature on the Cockatrice and was added in the Flamingo remodel update.
- Cockatrice's menu icon is currently bugged and doesn't show its wing leathering texture.
- On some unknown date around November of 2021, Cockatrice's swimming animation was changed from paddling to a more serpentine/crocodilian swim, with the cockatrice tucking its limbs in and moving by swaying its tail left to right.
- The adult cockatrice's Controls section has a large gap towards the bottom. This is because cockatrice reuses its Controls lineup from phoenix and that space is where phoenix would have its rebirth ability which cockatrice lacks.
