Chicken is a playable bird in Feather Family. It was received its current model on March 31st, 2023.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is completely cream yellow, with pink legs and a small beak of the same color. It has a very small body with a sharp conical beak and tiny feet.

Adult

Hen

The hen is a somewhat small, slightly smaller than the rooster, and plump bird with brown feathers that are lighter around the wings and tail. It has a yellow sharp beak and gray legs with brown talons. It has a small red comb on its head, smaller than that of the rooster.

Rooster

The rooster is a somewhat small, larger smaller than the hen, and minimally plump bird with brown feathers that are lighter around the wings and tail. It has a dark green chest and a large curved tail with blue and white feathers. It has a yellow sharp beak and gray legs with brown talons. It has a red comb on its head, larger than that of the hen.

Trivia

General

• In the 2022 April Fools update, all Chicken stages (only leghorn at the time) were replaced with stock images of chickens. This version was brought back as a skin for April Fools 2023 alongside another skin that used a basic model of a cat for both its hatchling and adult stages. Chicken because of this has had the most skins of any bird.
• Chicken and Turkey are the only Standard birds whose adult forms have running animations. No Standard has a running animation for its hatchling.
  • Chicken, Turkey and Guineafowl all use the same running animation.
• The Hen’s call is the chicken hurt sound from Minecraft, but its call pitch is increased to make it sound normal.

Leghorn

• The chicken is technically the first bird ever added to the game, with the earliest version of the game simply having a free model step-on chicken morph. The chicken itself was modeled by ShinyGriffin.
• The chicken is one of the original birds who were remodeled.
• Before the remodel, the chicken was flightless. It is also the only bird to have changed flight status when being remodeled.
• The Leghorn Chicken has the most realism skins of any bird with with the Brown Leghorn, White Leghorn, Black Australorp, Sussex, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Blue Australorp and Sebright.
• The 2019 Chicken model had a bug where using Call while Preen is active awkwardly disjoints its head.

The hen is a somewhat small, slightly smaller than the rooster, and plump bird with white feathers covering nearly the entirety of its body, extruding at points as bundles of ‘fluff’. Its beak, comb and wattle are black. Its comb is shorter than the rooster’s.

The rooster is a somewhat small, slightly larger than the hen, and minimally plump bird with white feathers covering nearly all its body, extruding at points as bundles of ‘fluff’. Its beak, comb and feet are black. Its comb is larger than the hen’s.

Silkie-Based

• The Silkie Chicken is the first ‘species’ skin to have a different flight status from its other skin. If hovering birds are counted as just flying birds, it’s the first skin in general to do this.
• Silkie Chicken is the only ‘species’ skin to not resemble another species of the bird, but rather just being a different breed.
