Argentavis is a playable bird in Feather Family. It's the sixth bird of the 2020 Summer of Fossils event. This modern version was released on August 6th, 2022.

Appearance

Chick

The chick is quite large when compared to most adult birds in the game. The new model appears to be more accurate to its actual, real-life appearance, with a more proportional head and beak. It has a beige head with a brown underbelly, with the rest of its body being covered in dark grey fluff. It has slender, featherless wings.

Adult

The adult is an incredibly large bird, likely the biggest fully flighted bird in the game that isn't a game pass. Similarily to the chick, the updated model is more faithful to how the bird looked like in reality, with larger, more detailed wings, a curved neck and less upright posture. The coloration of the new model is very similar to that of the 2020 model, with a primarily dark grey body and brown underbelly. It has a pink face with a hooked, beige beak, along with taloned, dark grey legs.

• Display - Argentavis hovers in midair, slowly flapping wings to stay airborne.
• Preen - Uses beak to clean feathers under right wing.
• Eyes - Opens or closes eyes.
• Fly - Argentavis takes flight.

Trivia

General

• This was the planned final bird of the Summer of Fossils event, following Pelagornis. However, the event was actually concluded for Halloween 2020 with the addition of Skeleton. This likely happened because there was a high demand for more SoF content that Shiny didn't plan.
• Argentavis is the first unlockable to receive a modern variant.
• The adult's running animation makes it look like it's preparing to go airborne, as it has its wings spread out.
• This is one of the two birds that hover during its Display emote, the others being the Phoenix. (Not counting Macaw ‘s old display animation.
• Argentavis is the second most expensive Unlockable.
• The adult call is very similar to that of the Vulture. This is most likely due to it being an ancient relative of modern vultures.

Updated-Based

• Updated Argentavis is the second occurrence of a “skin” on Feather Family, the first being Updated Phoenix.
• Modern Argentavis was added the day after Harpagornis’ release in a “mini-update”.
• Updated Argentavis is described in the note for its update as the more proportionally accurate version of Argentavis.
  • Interestingly, Classic Argentavis could also be used in Extinct Realism despite it being the less realistic variant.
• The flying animation for Modern Argentavis is currently bugged and has the wings flap under the body while flapping.

The chick has a dark pink head with a black beak. It's plumage is primarily white with some gray on the underbelly. It has black legs and tail feathers. The chick has a chunky body with very small wings and a hooked beak. It has small legs and sharp talons.

Adult

The adult is primarily black, with some gray on its underbelly and wings. It has a pink head and gray legs. Around its neck, many feathers stick out. There are white feathers on its tail. It has a black beak. Argentavis has massive wings, having a wingspan larger than the length of its body. It has a hooked beak which covers most of its face and sharp talons.

Classic-Based

• On the news about its update, it was labeled as "FINAL EXTINCT BIRD", leaving players to guess on what it is by the little hints we were given.
• There is a glitch that occurs when using Call and Eat at the same time as an adult. The neck feathers on the Argentavis come out of its neck.
• Classic Griffin and Classic Argentavis use the same wing models.
